Starwing
Overview
Section titled “Overview”Starwing is a compulsive tinkerer and explorer. He likes to dig into the nooks and crannies of ships, loves learning how they work and knowing what makes things tick. Deep inside, he dreams of being some sort of space-faring hero, even if his odds aren’t great.
At the moment, he works as a salvager for the Rec Runners. He’s a top-tier mechanic and pilot. He has to be, when he’s not working on ships, he’s getting into his own bits of trouble and mischief.
Appearance
Section titled “Appearance”Starwing is a short guy, he’s just 4’ tall. He doesn’t look human, he has enormous eyes, huge feathers coming off his arms, has two sets of ears, and there’s even an avian tail behind him. His whole body is covered in various feathers, his are a deep, dark blue with some lighter highlights and bits of grey. His legs end in narrow, digitigrade paws - they look almost like a raptor’s paws.
Genetic Mods
Section titled “Genetic Mods”Avali Genetics
Section titled “Avali Genetics”Starwing was a corporate product from the day he was born. He was a test-tube baby, built on an official gene-line. In his case, that is a compact avian body optimized for space-flight. His body is small and efficient, his wings enable better manuevering in zero-g, and his senses have been tuned for far more precise orientation. The trade off of course is a smaller and weaker body. He’s not a hard laborer or a fighter.
Tech Mods
Section titled “Tech Mods”Advanced Neural Interface - Blackmarket Mod
Section titled “Advanced Neural Interface - Blackmarket Mod”Built in from the start, Starwing has a high-grade neural interface. His creators intended to interface him with their computer systems to make sure he followed their scripts and plans. It was meant to give him perfect coordination with the other performers in his group, as well as allow his owners some extra control of him. He’s since had the unit modded, removing the corporate influence and enabling a far better sync/interface with the ships he flies.
Titanium Bones
Section titled “Titanium Bones”The avali gene line has a natural weakness in their bones. Starwing was intended to be a performer, which would’ve overstressed his natural bones. He was altered with metal-infused bone structures, a titanium alloy, essentially making his limbs incredibly durable. Nothing shy of high explosives or armor-piercing weapons will harm them.
Space Augments
Section titled “Space Augments”Starwing has various augments to help him survive in space. He has mag-grips in his hands and paws, a small augment to oxygenate his blood in a hard vacuum, and various other supportive mods.
History
Section titled “History”Starwing was born in a corporate lab, another product to be sold off. His particular ‘batch’ was bred for some resort world. They were opening a new attraction, it would be amazing to have a flock of these avians, singing and dancing for the whole thing. It was so much better than relying on robotics. They struggled to get an emotive enough performance from the animatronics at-hand. Of course, for the people built and sold into that life, it would’ve been hell - treated like slaves and machines.
The first few years, Starwing was trained for his job at the same factory that bred him. He was going to be a space adventurer in his act. Brave and triumphant, alongside a team, his hatchmates Buzz and Astro. It helped him build up dexterity, become an expert in movement, precision, and it filled his head with the dreams of actually being a real space adventurer like that.
Things got derailed when the factory finally shipped out Starwing and his hatchmates. Pirates intercepted the shipment and there was nothing the Company could do to get their performers back.
People aren’t cargo, mate.
Starwing and his brothers were in-part raised among the pirates, and eventually spread out in their own directions. In Star’s case, he was essentially adopted by the Rec Runners as a pre-teen. They raised him the rest of the way, trained him, and now he’s their bundles of mischief. He enjoys tearing into ships, reworking them, flying, and for better or worse: causing mischief.
Affiliation(s)
Section titled “Affiliation(s)”Crewed Ship(s)
Section titled “Crewed Ship(s)”A genuine starfighter, the Screaming Phoenix is a small and lightweight ship, fast as hell, incredibly manueverable, and armed with primarily a rail-gun for taking out the enemy. It's made of scrap and salvage, but it's the best salvage in the system. All handpicked by a genius engineer.
