Rian has seen more of New Athens than most, though he keeps his experiences close to the chest. It’s well known that he was once the captain of several civilian ships that brought newcomers to New Athens long ago, before he disappeared somewhere upon Poli for a half decade. Even so, he was well respected, often saving not just his own ship, but others, from unexpected meteors to failing mechanical issues; even unmodified, he’s known to have a bond with his own oldest ship, the Arana.

Nowadays he is a strict, but confident and cordial figure, often bored of long, recreational conversations and much more focused on the survival of his now 500-person-strong organization of the RecRunners. He certainly has the air of a man who never expected a project of salvaging refuse and cleaning the waste left by debris and accidents of space travel to become its own community, but is nevertheless dedicated to ensuring its continued survival even after he’s gone.

His favorite bit of recreation is simply enjoying a few drinks at a quiet bar he’s never been to before. This is also the easiest means of loosening him up for conversation, though he’s well past the age where he cares about letting loose.

A group of space salvagers really, these people gather the scraps of society, broken old ships, space debris, dangerous old drives and reactors, anything left unattended that they can salvage and sell. Most of them are seen as space-rats, people abandoned and left to live in the void. The best of them know ships better than the real designers, the bravest can outfly any pirate.
