Archimedes Dreamchaser | Archy
Overview
Section titled “Overview”Archy was a bright light snuffed out by a god-awful system. In his youth, he trusted the system. His life had an easy plan to it:
- Study Hard
- Work Hard
- Be Dedicated
- Achieve Happiness
Instead his work took him nowhere. No amount of study and sacrifice was good enough. People who’d worked half as hard were put above him. His kindness was taken advantage of. Quite frankly, the universe sucked. When he hit his breaking point, he left.
One transport, two, three, four… A contract here and a deal there. Stumbling between the stars. Archy tumbled through mods and genetics, jobs and places. In the end he became a salvage tech. He abandoned his living nightmares in search of survival. To some extent he’s lost hope for happiness, but still dreams of bigger things.
Appearance
Section titled “Appearance”Overall Archy looks like an exceptionally short black wolf. His fur is dark, but quite shiny and well cared for. He has tall lupine ears on his head and a fairly large tail behind him, even for his size. His paws are a touch oversized, with immaculately well groomed claws.
Most of the time he’s seen wearing either a space suit, a jump suit, or the coziest pajamas he can get. His off-hours time is spent relaxing in comfort.
Genetic Mods
Section titled “Genetic Mods”Space-Wolf Genetics
Section titled “Space-Wolf Genetics”Survival in space means tight confinement and resource scarcity. Archy’s body is smaller than average, reducing his needs for air, food, and water. He’s able to fit into tighter spaces thanks to the small size. His muscles and bones have been tweaked for greater strength. Some tweaks to his joins and ligaments have increased his dexterity and grip, able to firmly grasp things with his fingers or his toes.
Tech Mods
Section titled “Tech Mods”Neural Interface - Blackmarket/Stolen
Section titled “Neural Interface - Blackmarket/Stolen”Archy has a stolen Martian Neural Interface. While these units are essentially impervious to external hacking, a factory fresh unit can be safely cutomized and installed before its systems fully lockdown. His unit features some onboard AI and sensor suits.
Spacer Augs
Section titled “Spacer Augs”Archy has a variety of implants for space-life. He has mag grips in his hands and paws. There is a small oxygenator and CO2 scrubber in his chest that can allow him to survive a vacuum for a very short duration or low/poor oxygen environments for longer. A filter unit in his throat protects agaisnt airborne toxins.
Integrated Sensor Suit
Section titled “Integrated Sensor Suit”A variety of embedded sensors extend Archy’s senses. Most of these enhancements have been made to help in his work. Magnetic wave sensors, sensitive electrical sensing in his fingers, thermal vision, and a light acoustic/radar mapping system to navigate ships. It’s low power and cannot penetrate much, but it’s enough to navigate.
ID Spoofer
Section titled “ID Spoofer”When Archy ran away, he did it with the intention of leaving everything behind. He wanted to become someone new. His ID Spoofer is a basic unit. It has only 3 ID’s in it. There’s no complex generations systems. There’s a decent chance he stole this like his neural implant.
History
Section titled “History”At his start, Archy thought the world made sense. He was raised and told he would go on to be some amazing historical figure. He’d go to school, get a great job, build a family, and have an awesome life.
You’re gonna make something of yourself.
None of that materialized.
Archy attacked everything he did with dedication. He skipped out on social time so he could pursue a career. Never went to school dances or attended the typical teen social milestones. Every effort was put into making himself the best candidate for training, scholarships, and a job. Years spent volunteering and working on extracurriculars. No effort was too much. No ask or task was too much.
Time spent at his school, in scouts, in a naval training program, in so many things. Everything to be a perfect, young, and polished person. This was how you stand out and stand above the others.
At one of his early jobs, he was tasked with maintaining some emergency systems. It rained and snowed on him. He was soaked to the bone, freezing, but he kept going. A workplace accident fucked up his arm for a week, but he kept on working. The job had to get done. He kept at it. He’d be rewarded, right?
Worse students achieved higher marks. Worse workers were promoted. A few extremely bad teachers broke every shred of respect he had for educational companies. What value were they when their teachers failed to demonstrate even the most basic concepts?
The last straw came when he was 20. It’s not something he talks about. He just packed up and left.
Over the course of three years, Archy traveled on various ships. A wanderer. He didn’t know what he wanted. Time passed like it was nothing. Maybe it was depression. The first thing he did was get an ID Spoofer. The plan was to go entirely off grid and disappear. In small bits he experimented, getting mods and other augments. He started tinkering with ships but found his natural height was too much. Tall, broad, and bulky. It was a big change, a scary change, but he had himself made smaller. Lighter. Different. A new body.
Last year he arrived in New Athens. He’s been working for the Rec Runners since then.
Affiliation(s)
Section titled “Affiliation(s)”A group of space salvagers really, these people gather the scraps of society, broken old ships, space debris, dangerous old drives and reactors, anything left unattended that they can salvage and sell. Most of them are seen as space-rats, people abandoned and left to live in the void. The best of them know ships better than the real designers, the bravest can outfly any pirate.
Crewed Ship
Section titled “Crewed Ship”The main salvaging ship of the RecRunners. Containing approximately 50 salvagers at any given time, it is said that they can strip a battleship in under a day if needed. Cathide can also frequently be found on this ship to protect the salvagers herself, as she is also the unofficial ‘ship mom’.
